Offers of homes

Thank you to every one who has sent an offer in to give Poppy a good home. We hope to make a selection at the end of the week when Poppy is due to have her stitches out. Provided everyone gets along OK and her new owners are happy, I hope to post a few details about where she is going and what is going to happen to her now.

Video from 24 Hours Post Operation

This is a short clip of Poppy enjoying the fresh air with her new friend Georgia. As you can see she has forgotten she had surgery the day before and is ready to go at full pelt without her useless leg holding her back.

If you would like to be considered as a home for Poppy, please e mail info@ardentpets.co.uk with a short description of why you are suitable.

Photos From Operation Day

As promised here are some photos of Poppy on the day of her surgery. If you sensitive to medical images there are no photos of the surgery itself but one showing her stitches has been included.

Right: Anaesthetised before surgery

Karl of Ardent Pets who funded the surgery said 'I couldn't settle whilst she was having her operation, it was like one of my own pets was under anaesthetic. I was happy when I knew she was OK. She's been through so much in such a short space of time'

Right: Poppy just after surgery

Recovering in her kennel after being transfered from theatre.

Her next post should include a video of her the day after surgery.
You will be surprised how well she manages after such a short space of time after her leg being amputated.

Why not become a follower so you can keep updated on her progress.

Successful Surgery and Smooth Recovery

Poppy has had the surgery to amputate her leg. You will all be glad to hear it has gone well with both her anaesthetic and recovery smooth and uneventful. There will be some photos coming soon of her just before and just after her operation. Unfortunately the vet who amputated her leg was a little shy and wasn't keen to appear but never mind we dont want him stealing the spotlight from our special stray.
She recovered so well by 5pm she walked outside to relieve herself and decided to try and run off down the drive until stopped by two rather overprotective vet nurses. Once safely back in her kennel she polished off her dinner and settled down for the night as though nothing had happened.
We would like to thank vet Jenny and her fiancé for their present to Poppy of a stunning red padded ancol harness with reflective stitching (http://www.ardentpets.co.uk/dogs/ancol-padded-dog-harness-nylon/prod_73.html).
You can see her modelling it in most of the videos and photos!

Poppy 4 Days after her Accident

The Story So Far...

On Tuesday 4th November a young dog was rushed into a West Midlands Vets, by 3 dashing police officers after being hit by a car. She was in extreme shock with paralysis of both front legs. Vet Michelle immediately administered intravenous fluids and first aid treatment. As the poor pup was not microchipped her owner could not be found.

After 24 hours of intensive nursing and fluid therapy her condition became stable and after 48 hours she was begining to use one of her front legs. A series of x rays showed she had amazingly not broken any bones but with the nerve supply to one leg irreversibly damaged the future looked bleak for the little stray.

The next few days saw her increase in strength as she began eating and learned to move around on three legs. She was given the name Poppy by the vet who saved her life but with no owner coming forward her options were to have the useless leg amputated or be put to sleep.

Before the fatal decision could be made Karl Osborne of http://www.ardentpets.co.uk/ came forward offering to fund the surgery.

Karl said “We always try to help animals in need. It isn’t always possible because we hear of many cases. Hopefully if we have a good Christmas we will continue to use our profits to help animals in the New Year”

Four days after her accident Karl met Poppy for the first time (pictured right). She instantly started wagging her tail and was eager to get out of the kennel to say hello.

So many people have fallen in love with Poppy so we have started this blog to keep everyone upto date with her progress following surgery and in her search for a new home. If you would like to be considered for Poppy's new home please send no more than one page detailing why you should be considered to info@ardentpets.co.uk.
